The drone hobby is like an addiction. Once it grabs you, the fascination of flying won’t let up. The view from above is simply incomparable. But how should one start with the hobby? Which drone should I buy as a beginner ?
What do I have to pay attention to as a newcomer and amateur to drones? Buying a cheap drone has the advantage that in the event of a crash, or flyaway, your own expenses or the loss of the drone are kept within limits. The big disadvantage , on the other hand, is that cheap drones are – contrary to what is expected – usually much more difficult to fly and control. They also offer fewer security features and little support for beginners. This can often lead to frustration and early giving up, as the desired progress and success in flying does not occur. Therefore, a cheap drone can be a good start into the hobby . But if financial resources play a subordinate role, then a higher-quality drone is recommended with appropriately well-equipped obstacle, flight and safety sensors .
GPS-assisted position correction (no drifting in the wind)
Camera with live image view on the remote control / in an APP
Automatic return flight and landing in the event of a problem (return-to-home), for example if the radio is interrupted or the battery is empty
Obstacle detection and possibly even avoidance
… represent a very big help, which can make it considerably easier for beginners and newcomers to get started in the drone hobby and offer a large safety buffer. In this case, it also makes sense to rely on drone models from renowned manufacturers and market leaders such as DJI. Therefore (depending on the budget and the approach) we have divided our recommendations of drones for beginners and amateurs into two sections:
